The Glass Shoppe offer a large variety of glass products. The selection of which glass to be purchased and installed should be considered carefully before installation.
As a rule of thumb any glass in your house level to body height should only use high quality safety glass while other glass located in areas higher or outside of reach of a person can use standard glass products.
Safety glass shatters into many harmless pieces rather than breaks the way regular glass does. Never compromise on this.
The Glass Shoppe are the best people to speak to when looking for glass products that can be used for counter-tops or as full glass tables.
Glass placed on top of old wood or even stone tables can both preserve the wood while at the same time highlight the details and beauty of the wood.
The thickness of the glass is determined by the overall weight the glass is expected to carry. A counter top that carries most of the weight can make use of thinner glass however it would be a mistake not to use treated glass.
In all cases however we recommend that you mention to a Glass Shoppe team member that the glass is going to be used for a table or counter-top before cutting.
This can save you a return visit for a redo. ;)
Unlike aluminium or metal frames, there is a slight trick to getting replacement window pane glass for wooden windows.
Wood can swell at different times based on rainfall and other seasonal factors - it is important therefore to ensure that your glass cutting has taken this into consideration by ensuring a small gap of about 2mm all around the pane.
As many houses in the Randburg area were built using standard glass we also recommend making your replacement glass safety glass. Normal glass can be very dangerous to little ones and even careless adults.
Remember to first check with your householders insurance company before making these purchases.
